Using lightweight materials and designs, they will keep you dry without adding extra bulk or weight, leaving room for more camp comforts. While a 3-season tent has the structural strength to handle high winds or a surprise light snowstorm, if you're expecting snow on your trip you'll want to look into a burlier 4-season shelter.

Some of the factors you want to consider when picking your tent are:
- Capacity: How many people will be sleeping in your tent?
- Weight: Based off the activity you'll be using your tent for, how much are you willing to carry?
- Packed Size: how much space will your tent take up in your backpack/car?
- Intended use: will you be using your tent for backpacking, bikepacking, car camping, mountaineering, or another application?

It is always recommended that you set up your tent at home before bringing it on its first adventure, to familiarize yourself with the set up steps.
