The CDT is close to home for us here at Big Agnes. Our 2025 Continental Divide Trail Sponsorship Winner, Alan Littlehales is excited to take on this endeavor and we are hoping to meet up with him on his Thru Hike when he nears our Headquarters in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
We sat down with Alan to chat about his upcoming Thru Hike and what he is looking forward to on his CDT hike. Read the full interview below to learn more about Alan!
Q: What trail will you be hiking and why did you choose this trail?
A: I’ll be hiking the Continental Divide Trail. I chose this trail for so many reasons. I’m really eager to hike through the Rocky Mountains which are a part of the country I haven’t spent much time in. I went to college in New Mexico and I love the idea of walking through that beautiful state. My favorite section of the PCT was the desert and I know I want my next thru-hike to have a desert section. The CDT has so many alternate routes and isn't technically even finished yet so it has a “choose your own adventure” feel to it that’s really appealing.
Q: What inspired you to set this goal for yourself?
A: My 2021 thru-hike was truly one of the best things I’ve ever done - I think about it every day. When I finished, I knew the CDT was next on my list and the timing just feels right.
Q: What luxury item will you bring on trail with you?
A: My sit pad - I thought they were kinda silly at first but when I finally got one it was a total game changer.
Q: What is one thing you are hoping to take away from your thru hike?
A: More memories, more friends and more time outside.
Q: If you could invite a celebrity (alive or dead) who would you invite on your hike and why?
A: Lana del Rey. hahaha I just think we’d really hit it off and probably a thru-hike would be hugely influential on her music. I’d love to listen the songs she writes about our CDT experience.
Q: What's your favorite trail snack/candy?
A: Making a salad of like five different kinds of sour gummies in big ziploc bag.
